Barbara Murphy has been working and studying in the field of psychology and counselling for almost fourteen years, and is an expert in the field of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Barbara can help you change the way you think and behave so you deal with things in a more positive way.
CBT has been proven to be effective in the management of depression and anxiety through rigorous scientific research. CBT is also the first line treatment recommended by medical practitioners for the management of moderate to severe depression, ahead of medications.
Barbara has been specialising in CBT over the past five years, and has most recently completed a two-year masters of science in cognitive psychotherapy in Trinity College Dublin in September 2014. During her masters, Barbara wrote a thesis on social anxiety, and is a specialist in the area of anxiety disorders (which would include panic disorders, social anxiety and phobias).
Barbara is accredited by the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and is a member of the Psychological Society of Ireland and of the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists.
Barbara has worked in the field of psychotherapy for many years, most recently seeing clients in St. Patrick’s University Hospital Dublin, and also in Trinity College Dublin counselling centre for students.
Barbara also works out of her private offices, which are located in Clonmel Co.Tipperary, and Stillorgan Co. Dublin. They are located in discreet, quiet and relaxing environments and her approach is warm, empathic and non-judgemental.
